If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

ANSON-MAX JONES
ANSON-MAX JONESMax Elwyn Jones was born on July 17, 1947, in Abilene, TX and went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2024, at Anson General Hospital in Anson, TX at the age of 77. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Anson, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson. A visitation will be from 6-7:30 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Adams Graham Funeral Home. Max was a son of the late Doc and Josie Jones. He was raised in Stamford, TX and graduated from Stamford High School in 1965. Max graduated from Howard Payne College in Brownwood, TX where he also met the love of his life, Rita, during his Senior year. Max and Rita were married on December 29, 1970, and had 50 beautiful years together.
Max’s parents, Doc and Josie Jones, raised their kids in the ways of the Lord, and he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 8 years old. Since that time, he strived to serve the Lord and others in all he did. He was a good role model and mentor to many as he taught and coached for many years.
Max coached in Eden before being drafted in the Army. The Army allowed him to finish out the school year before going off to basic training. Max served his country in Hawaii and El Paso from 1971-74. While stationed in Hawaii, Max received his Master’s in Education from Pepperdine University in California in 1974. Also, during this time, he was ordained as a deacon. Max and Rita considered their time in Hawaii to be very special as they grew closer together as newlyweds, and God provided a close-knit group of friends.
After serving in the Army, Max enjoyed several years of coaching in Plainview, Spur, Crane and Stamford, coaching football, basketball and track before retiring in 1986. In 1984, he also decided to go into the family business of farming. Although he farmed for the rest of his career (28 years), he soon found that farming would not sustain his family and went back to teaching. As a math teacher, Max taught at Anson, Rotan and ended his career at Cisco Junior College in Abilene. Always a coach at heart, Max loved being on the field at football games. He was the statistician for the Anson Tigers for 29 years.
One of the most enjoyable hobbies for Max was playing golf. Learning the game in college, he would often play 36+ holes on Saturdays. After retirement, he liked to take his clubs along while traveling to play a round or two at a nearby golf course. He often enjoyed organizing tournaments and pick-up games on the weekends. Especially in recent years, golf was a source of comfort for him, and he greatly treasured the bond of friendship he had with his golf buddies.
Max enjoyed history and traveling. He always made it a priority to take the family on a vacation every summer going to historical places throughout the country and camping along the way. At night he enjoyed reading “Hank the Cowdog” books and “The Chronicles of Narnia” series to the kids. Camping in Colorado was his favorite place, and there were many unforgettable memories as a family on these trips.
Max was a leader and servant of the community. He served as Treasurer for First Baptist Church, Anson - 17 yrs; Treasurer for West Central Baptist Assoc - 13 yrs; Treasurer for the Anson Golf Club - 10 yrs; Anson School Board - 9 yrs (6 yrs as President); Farmers Co-op Gin Board – 9 yrs (1 yr as President); Executive Boards for Double Mountain Baptist Assoc, Big Country Baptist Assembly and Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Even though Max loved coaching, playing golf and spending time with family, he knew the importance of knowing Christ, serving Him and that our purpose is to glorify God. Max demonstrated throughout his life that God was the highest priority and strived to let God lead and guide him in all things. He and Rita raised their children in the ways of the Lord and each have submitted to Him with their whole heart, and in turn, are striving to teach their children this foundation in Christ. From a young age, Max enjoyed singing in the choir, and he and Rita joined the choir in every church where they lived as well as being involved in many Bible study groups. And, whether in college, the Army or in each place they lived, God provided a group of amazing friends that they loved being around and cherished for a lifetime.
Max is preceded in death by his wife, Rita; his parents N. D. (Doc) & Josie Jones; and 1 grandson, Ryan Hartman.
He is survived by 3 children – daughter Caryn and husband Rob Hartman of Anson, son Bryan and wife Lori Jones of Papua New Guinea, and daughter Angela and husband Mark Barefield of Burkburnett; 10 grandchildren – Caralyn, Cathryn & Cristyn Hartman, Lily, Kaylee, Riley & Bryce Jones and Levi, Kodi & Luke Barefield; 5 brothers – Delton and wife Joni Jones of Austin, Ron and wife Trude Jones of Wichita Falls, Larry and wife Linda Jones of Lake Kiowa, Steve and wife Jan Jones of McKinney and Tim and wife Kim Jones of Ft Worth; 3 aunts – Dorothy Bailey of Ranch Cordova, California, Ruth and husband Robert Isaacs of Jacksonville, and Betty and husband Tom Keenum of Abilene and so many beloved friends, brothers/sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

“BUDDY” Andrew Ferdinand Dewitt, Jr.
March 26, 1941 – June 7, 2024
Buddy DeWitt, age 83, passed away peacefully at home, June 7, 2024, with his wife and son.
Buddy was born in Alexandria, Louisiana to Andrew F. DeWitt, Sr., and Opal Lee Buxton DeWitt. Eleven days before Buddy was born, his father was killed in a tragic accident and his grandparents Andrew F. and Martha Elizabeth DeWitt helped his mother raise him.
Buddy attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School and attended Bolton High School and graduated in 1959. On November 22, 1963, Buddy joined the Army, the same day that John F Kennedy was assassinated, and served two years, stationed in Alaska with the 3710th Squad. Buddy drove trucks in the Army, and he’d say, “watch Ice Truckers, that’s what I did”. In 1965 Buddy received an honorable discharge and then served the next 10 years in the Army Reserve in Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Christmas of 1971, Buddy met the love of his life, Pamela Kirby, at the Big Wheel Truck Stop, Oak Hill, TX while eating with mutual friends. They were later married on April 17, 1972.
Buddy was employed by Buck Steiner and Tommy Steiner in 1968 where he worked on the ranch but mostly hauled livestock for Steiner Rodeo Company, the rodeo livestock was his main responsibility. After he and Pam married, they worked side by side at each rodeo, he hauled the livestock, and she hauled their trailer. Over the years, Buddy made numerous friends throughout the rodeo profession but there was one friendship that he truly cherished and loved the most, Barbara Mandrell. A friendship grew between them over the years as she was the entertainer who performed at several Steiner Rodeos. Barbara had a love for one of the pickup horses, his name was Jack. Buddy always made sure he was ready for her to ride in and out of the arena for each performance. Her sister, Irlene would routinely play the drums and she did so barefooted, so Buddy had the responsibility to, as he said, “gouge her” to put her boots back on because the set was about to be over. Barbara Mandrell had a song written, “Tonight My Baby’s Coming Home” and Buddy with his years of experience of driving trucks, became her technical advisor on some of the lyrics. The song was released in November 1971, one of her early single releases in her career and among the first to reach the top ten on the American Country Songs Chart. Buddy was very proud of that song, and he would always say, “Barbara wrote that about me”.
After Buddy retired from Steiner Rodeo in 1976, his love for rodeo never changed. If there was a bull riding or rodeo close enough, he was there. When Mitch Terrell first started TNT Rodeo and had buck outs on Sundays at the arena by the Anson Baseball Field, Buddy was behind the shoot helping, doing whatever he could to get the bulls to buck whether it was putting on the rigging or using the hotshot right out of the gate. He very seldom missed a PBR event on television and was so proud to see TNT bulls perform. If you were there watching with him, he’d say, this bull, watch, he’s going to come out stand on his nose and cut left, or this cowboy won’t last 4 seconds that bull is going to dump him quick whipping back right, whatever unique trait each bull had, he commented on, Buddy was the living room announcer.
Buddy worked for the Abilene Independent School District, Maintenance Division where he made lifelong friends. He retired from the AISD Maintenance Division in June 2009.
Buddy was proud of being from Texas, but he was very proud of being a native-born Cajun from Louisiana, his Texas family referred to him as the Rajun Cajun. When Buddy would go back home to Louisiana to visit, the closer he got to the Texas/Louisiana border the harder he was to understand. When he would go back to his roots, the conversation wasn’t only confusing, but it was comical, the dialect was strong. In Louisiana instead of saying come here he would say “Brought yourself on over there” and you’d look around trying to figure out where to go. He would love telling stories about how back in the day some Louisiana Legislators would meet up to settle on a Bill they couldn’t agree on by riding a mechanical bull. He’d watch Swamp People and that Cajun accent would come out and between him and Troy Landry on TV, you could not help but laugh. If you knew Buddy, you knew he was not only one of a kind, but he was also unique.
Buddy was survived by his wife, Pamela Kirby DeWitt, his son, John Andrew DeWitt and wife Kimberly Glover DeWitt and granddaughter Adeline Louise DeWitt, and his faithful companion, Gracie. Brother Jimmy Belgard and wife Sammie of Monroe, LA, and sister Yvonne Belgard LaComb and husband Al. Sister-in-Laws, Deborah Kirby Ralston of Abilene, Belinda Kirby Smith and husband David, and Gloria J. Little of Anson. Buddy has numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
